Approximately Up Aundara Guide: How to Reach the Planet
Where Aundara (often spelled Aandara) is in Approximately Up, how to find and reach it, flight times, and the Under Prime missions (checked Aug 13, 2026).

Aundara is the small dark grey-brown planet behind the Moon’s far side — the destination behind the most-asked question in the discussions hub: “Where is Aundara?” Players sometimes write the name Aandara; both spellings point to the same planet. From the Moon you fly out toward the far side and aim for Aundara, and at roughly 65 km/s a direct flight takes about 22 minutes with medium electric thrusters. The settlement you are heading for is the Under Prime base, the drop-off point of one of the Moon’s missions.
Version note: the route, distance and flight times on this page were verified on August 13, 2026 against patch 1.0.010, the latest confirmed release note.
What Is Aundara?
Aundara is one of the 15 unique planets the store page officially lists, each with its own size, gravity, atmosphere, temperature, challenges and dynamic soundtrack (Last checked: August 13, 2026). Player reports from launch week describe Aundara as a small, dark grey-brown world that sits behind the Moon, the direction you fly when the Moon’s quests send you outward. Like the other planets with a station, Aundara has a Planet Station — a save point and garage — and landing there once permanently unlocks Aundara as a new departure point.
Gravity near a planet is roughly 0.3 g and zero in deep space, and a gravity meter unlocks later in the game (player-reported). The complete official list of all 15 planet names has not been published anywhere we can verify, so treat unsourced planet details as community talk. What is confirmed: Aundara hosts the Under Prime base, which is the delivery target of the experimental-thruster mission covered below. For the full confirmed roster, see planets-and-locations, and make sure you have a working ship before the trip — getting-started covers the build.
How to Find Aundara (From Earth or the Moon)
DeshyC’s “How to Find Aundara” video, recorded on the release build right after launch, describes the takeoff routine players use to spot the planet. Start from Earth or the Moon and lift just barely out of the atmosphere — you know you are out when the altimeter reads infinite. Reduce thrust a little and scan the planet’s edge; clouds block the target until you are high enough to see over them. Do not keep climbing once you are out, or you drift off-target. (player-reported)
Jight’s Steam guide “How to find Aundara (from moon)” is a three-step visual method that uses cameras instead of instruments. It needs a ship with front and below-facing cameras. Step one: aim at the guide’s reference building and climb until Earth appears, then fly toward Earth. Step two: roll right (clockwise) about 45 degrees until the Earth’s shadow matches the guide’s image, then watch the down-facing camera for a small dot — that is Aundara. Step three: tilt the ship downward to line up with the dot and boost. The guide is for finding the planet, not for landing on it, and its author jokes that he has attempted the landing so many times that he just knows the way now. (player-reported) For a numeric readout of that 45-degree roll, the gyro-line shows your pitch and roll in degrees.
Once the planet is visible, the next problem is measuring it. The standard long-range rangefinder does not reach far enough, so the community trick is a zoom-capable camera aimed at the planet until the rangefinder locks, plus a crosshair drawn on your monitor to hold the aim. On approach the objective base blinks on the map/radar, and roughly 2,000 altitude is the community’s safe reference to cut thrust before entering the atmosphere. (player-reported)
How Long Is the Trip?
At roughly 65 km/s a direct flight to Aundara takes about 22 minutes (player-measured). Launch-week stream data agrees: one player made the Moon-to-Aundara run in about 20 minutes in a fast ship, while the same trip took up to 2 hours in a slow ship before patch 1.0.005 shortened the route. Bigger engines are always faster, and with the Brake System (BPS) the run drops to about half an hour. Want a number for your own cruise speed? The route planner estimates the run — at ~65 km/s it returns ≈ 24 min. (player-reported)
Patch 1.0.005 (August 7, 2026) officially shortened the Moon-Aundara distance from 115M to 95M to cut flight time (Last checked: August 13, 2026). A commenter on Jight’s guide adds that a trip of about an hour is completely normal and the planet will not look visibly closer for a long time: keep speed around 25k while traveling, ease off progressively as the distance drops, and ideally be down to about 1k when entering the planet’s atmosphere. (player-reported) Another commenter warns that the Moon-to-Aundara delivery feels long with just one medium engine, since the run seems to depend heavily on energy. (player-reported)
Aundara Missions (Under Prime)
The Moon has two confirmed missions in the release build, and one of them ends at Aundara. The first is the “big battery problem”: find and retrieve the lost large disposable battery from the Moon’s dark side. The second is a thruster test flight — deliver a new experimental electric thruster from the Moonstep base to the Under Prime base on Aundara, and if it works well you get to keep it. Both come from the launch-week livestream (release build, August 8, 2026, player-reported).
The medium electric thrusters players recommend for the Aundara run are granted by the mission, and they stay on your ship after you land. After the Moon’s two missions, the community’s next destinations are the ringed planet Baobara and Aundara with its Under Prime base. What other missions await at Under Prime after the delivery is not yet confirmed in official sources.
Tips & Common Mistakes
- Stop climbing right after the altimeter reads infinite. Extra altitude drifts you off-target, and clouds hide the planet until you are high enough anyway (player-reported, DeshyC).
- Fit medium electric thrusters for the Aundara run. They are mission-granted and stay on your ship after landing (player-reported).
- Do not trust the long-range rangefinder on its own. Use a zoom-capable camera to get a lock, plus a monitor crosshair to hold the aim (player-reported).
- Bring speed or brakes. A slow ship can take up to 2 hours; bigger engines and the Brake System both cut the run to about half an hour (player-reported).
- Watch for the blinking objective base and cut thrust around 2,000 altitude before the atmosphere. Gravity near the planet is about 0.3 g, and zero in deep space (player-reported).
Finding Aundara With Space GPS (1.0.104)
Official patch 1.0.104 added Space GPS. Mount it outside the ship with at least 60% free space around it, or it will not lock. When placed correctly it outputs distance, longitude, and latitude relative to the Sun — useful once Aundara is a faint dot and the long-range rangefinder still will not reach. Completing Tree Lid on Baobara grants 1× Space GPS. How the part mounts and wires is on parts-and-instruments. This does not replace the camera / 45-degree roll methods above; it is a later instrument for the same trip.
